Hillary was the opening speaker at the 2015 NAACP National Convention in Philly last year, and Bill closed out the speaker roster. Were the Clintons there on a freebie basis in order to raise votes for Hillary, or did they get a portion of their customary speaker fees? For Hillary, that’s $225,000 per speech. She earned $9 million from speaking fees in 2013 and since 2001 the couple have netted $153,000,000 (yeah, million) total. At least some of that money came from Goldman Sachs.

Adam Edelman of the Daily News writes,

Fading Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, who has been under fire from progressives for performing lucrative paid speeches at Goldman Sachs, reportedly heaped praise on employees of the investment bank in two such speeches, and said Wall Street shouldn’t take all the blame for the financial crisis…

“It was pretty glowing about us,” one person in attendance for the speech told Politico. “It’s so far from what she sounds like as a candidate now. It was like a rah-rah speech. She sounded more like a Goldman Sachs managing director.”

#7 on Breaking Brown’s interesting list of 7 things Hillary Clinton Doesn’t Want You to Remember About Bill Clinton speaks to the heart of what troubles me about the Clintons: it’s hard to distinguish major differences between them and the Republicans – whom are supposed to be on the other side of the ideological fence from us Dems:

President Bill Clinton, like Obama, had two years in the White House with a Democratic Congress after being elected. During those two years, Clinton caved on his promise to pass a welfare reform bill that would put people to work, but be buttressed by government support. Instead, he unilaterally put forth a bill that was as heartless and callous as anything Republicans had ever supported. The right wing got what it wanted from Clinton, while all the left got was pretty rhetoric.
