Beautiful President Carter has cancer. Much love.

Jimmy Carter, Habitat for Humanity builderThe New York Times reports on 90 year old President Jimmy Carter’s announcement that he has liver cancer, “that is now in other parts of my body.”

President Obama offers these words of hope:

Our thoughts and prayers are with Rosalynn and the entire Carter family as they face this challenge with the same grace and determination that they have shown so many times before. Jimmy, you’re as resilient as they come, and along with the rest of America, we are rooting for you.”

As a testament to Mr. Carter’s humanity and kind heart, Truthout Editor William Rivers Pitt shared with friends today a link to Carter’s July 1979 Crisis of Confidence speech, about which Pitt recommends: “Watch it with your whole, entire face.” Thanks, Will – I am, and it is awe-inspiring … and this quote:

In this outward and physical ceremony we attest once again to the inner and spiritual strength of our Nation. As my high school teacher, Miss Julia Coleman, used to say: ‘We must adjust to changing times and still hold to unchanging principles.'”

It is good to realize that if love and peace can prevail on earth, and if we can teach our children to honor nature’s gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever.”

“We cannot be both the world’s leading champion of peace and the world’s leading supplier of the weapons of war.”

“War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children.”

– President Jimmy Carter

I add my own prayers that beautiful Mr. Carter enjoy a speedy and complete recovery. Much love, Mr. President.
