It is a first person account written by attorney <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/My-Life-Era-Autobiography-Franklin\/dp\/0807125997\" target=\"_blank\">Buck Colbert Franklin<\/a>\u00a0(1879-1960), who survived the massacre although his law practice was burned to the ground.\u201cI could see planes circling in mid-air. They grew in number and hummed, darted and dipped low. I could hear something like hail falling upon the top of my office building. Down East Archer, I saw the old Mid-Way hotel on fire, burning from its top, and then another and another and another building began to burn from their top,\u201d he wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Franklin writes that he left his law office, locked the door, and descended to the foot of the steps &#8230; \u201cThe side-walks were literally covered with burning turpentine balls.
