Thanks Yulie for passing them along to me.<\/p>\n<p>TO A PHENOMENAL WOMAN<br \/>\nby Maya Angelou<\/p>\n<p>When I was in my younger days,<br \/>\nI weighed a few pounds less,<br \/>\nI needn&#8217;t hold my tummy in<br \/>\nto wear a belted dress.<\/p>\n<p>But now that I am older,<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve set my body free;<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s comfort of elastic<br \/>\nWhere once my waist would be.<\/p>\n<p>Inventor of those high-heeled shoes<br \/>\nMy feet have not forgiven;<br \/>\nI have to wear a nine now,<br \/>\nBut used to wear a seven.<\/p>\n<p>And how about those pantyhose&#8211;<br \/>\nThey&#8217;re sized by weight, you see,<br \/>\nSo how come when I put them on<br \/>\nThe crotch is at my knee?<\/p>\n<p>I need to wear these glasses<br \/>\nAs the print&#8217;s been getting smaller;<br \/>\nAnd it wasn&#8217;t very long ago<br \/>\nI know that I was taller.<\/p>\n<p>Though my hair has turned to gray<br \/>\nand my skin no longer fits,<br \/>\nOn the inside, I&#8217;m the same old me,<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s the outside&#8217;s changed a bit.<\/p>\n<p>But, on a positive note &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he\/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you&#8217;ll miss them when they&#8217;re gone from your life.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that making a &#8220;living&#8221; is not the same thing as making a &#8220;life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that you shouldn&#8217;t go through life with a catcher&#8217;s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that even when I have pains, I don&#8217;t have to be one.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A poem and some very good thoughts from Dr. Maya Angelou, a woman I admire so.
