A poem and some very good thoughts from Dr. Maya Angelou<\/a>, a woman I admire so. Thanks Yulie for passing them along to me.<\/p>\n

TO A PHENOMENAL WOMAN
\nby Maya Angelou<\/p>\n

When I was in my younger days,
\nI weighed a few pounds less,
\nI needn’t hold my tummy in
\nto wear a belted dress.<\/p>\n

But now that I am older,
\nI’ve set my body free;
\nThere’s comfort of elastic
\nWhere once my waist would be.<\/p>\n

Inventor of those high-heeled shoes
\nMy feet have not forgiven;
\nI have to wear a nine now,
\nBut used to wear a seven.<\/p>\n

And how about those pantyhose–
\nThey’re sized by weight, you see,
\nSo how come when I put them on
\nThe crotch is at my knee?<\/p>\n

I need to wear these glasses
\nAs the print’s been getting smaller;
\nAnd it wasn’t very long ago
\nI know that I was taller.<\/p>\n

Though my hair has turned to gray
\nand my skin no longer fits,
\nOn the inside, I’m the same old me,
\nIt’s the outside’s changed a bit.<\/p>\n

But, on a positive note …<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he\/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that making a “living” is not the same thing as making a “life.”<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
