The ad&#8217;s activity takes place in the Totontepec Villa of Morelos, a Mixe community in Oaxaca, M\u00e9xico. Nation of Change writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;Pablo and other activists said the ad \u201creproduced and reinforced stereotypes of indigenous people as culturally and racially subordinate,\u201d according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2015\/dec\/05\/coca-cola-mexico-ad-indigenous-people\">report<\/a> in The Guardian, which reported that they have asked the government to sanction the soft drink giant.<\/p>\n<p>The Alliance for Food Health has filed an official complaint with the National Council to Prevent Discrimination. Mexico is one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.takepart.com\/article\/2015\/06\/11\/obese-country-world-also-most-body-confident\">most obese nations on the planet<\/a> and a top consumer of soda\u2014although the nation\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.takepart.com\/article\/2015\/10\/22\/mexicos-cuts-successful-soda-tax\">soda tax has seen some progress<\/a> in reducing sales&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFifty years ago, cases of diabetes type 2 in our indigenous communities were rare,\u201d says one person, speaking in the Mixe language. \u201cNow they begin to be an epidemic. In order to remain united, we must preserve our dignity, our health, and our culture. Es un anuncio de Coca Cola, y como es t\u00edpico en la publicidad de esta multinacional, sus protagonistas exudan alegr\u00eda. Tienen una misi\u00f3n: llevar &#8220;un mensaje muy especial&#8221; a los ind\u00edgenas de ese pueblo, situado a 160 kil\u00f3metros de la capital oaxaque\u00f1a, en el sur del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>Los j\u00f3venes, todos ellos blancos y bi\u00e9n parecidos, traen con ellos hieleras con refrescos de la marca y trozos de madera. Y construyen un \u00e1rbol de Navidad con tablas rojas en el centro del poblado, y distribuyen las bebidas gaseosas como (algo que) reparte felicidad. Sin embargo, no todos est\u00e1n contentos con la publicidad.<\/p>\n<p>Grupos que defienden los derechos de los consumidores y profesionales de la salud pusieron el grito en el cielo y exigieron al gobierno mexicano prohibir el anuncio. Las asociaciones de consumidores de M\u00e9xico dicen que el anuncio de Coca Cola contribuye al deterioro de la salud de los ind\u00edgenas.<\/p>\n<p>Concretamente, la Alianza por la Salud Alimentaria, un ente que agrupa a organizaciones &#8220;preocupadas por la epidemia de sobrepeso y obesidad en M\u00e9xico&#8221;, tal como se describe en su p\u00e1gina web, se dirigi\u00f3 la petici\u00f3n al Consejo Nacional para Prevenir la Discriminaci\u00f3n (Conapred).<\/p>\n<p>El organismo argumenta que la publicidad ataca la dignidad de los ind\u00edgenas y contribuye al deterioro de su salud. Es que M\u00e9xico tiene uno de los mayores \u00edndices de sobrepeso y obesidad del mundo, y eso afecta particularmente a su poblaci\u00f3n ind\u00edgena. Y lo mismo ocurre con la diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfRomper con prejuicios?<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, la publicidad &#8220;es indignante para los ind\u00edgenas&#8221;, dice Diana Turner, vocera de El Poder del Consumidor, una de las asociaciones que conforman la Alianza. Se refiere a que los j\u00f3venes son todos blancos y llegan con unos cuantos refrescos y unas luces a ayudar a la comunidad ind\u00edgena.<\/p>\n<p>El objetivo de la publicidad, sin embargo, es animar a la gente a &#8220;romper con los prejuicios&#8221;. As\u00ed lo dice. Tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1ala que &#8220;el 81,6% de los ind\u00edgenas mexicanos se han sentido rechazados por hablar otra lengua&#8221;. As\u00ed que los j\u00f3venes construyen el \u00e1rbol de Navidad con unas luces en las que se lee: &#8220;T\u00f6kmuk n&#8217;ijyyumtat&#8221;. &#8220;Permanezcamos unidos&#8221;, dice que significa en lengua Mixe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;T\u00fa tambi\u00e9n rompe con un prejuicio y comp\u00e1rtelo usando #AbreTuCoraz\u00f3n&#8221;, pide el anuncio. &#8220;Cada vez que lo hagas, encender\u00e1s una luz en el \u00e1rbol de Coca Cola&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>El anuncio ya no se puede encontrar en el canal de YouTube de la compa\u00f1\u00eda. Lo retir\u00f3 el martes por la noche, despu\u00e9s de que estallara la noticia. Sin embargo, sigue circulando en internet, compartido por terceros. Y las cr\u00edticas se han multiplicado en otra red social, Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Coca Cola est\u00e1 trabajando en una branding colonial en M\u00e9xico con su campa\u00f1a racista y exenta de tacto #AbreTuCorazon&#8221;, dice un usuario. Y otro se pregunta: &#8220;\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 no muestras a gente de Oaxaca llevando su cultura a otros pa\u00edses?&#8221;.
