Residents of low-income communities without large supermarkets often shop at dollar stores, but over half the items they buy at these places have tested positive for poisons like “lead, Bisphenol A (BPA) or Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) … chemicals that are linked to everything from childhood obesity to learning disabilities,” says José Bravo of the national Campaign for Healthier Solutions.
