It’s not that complicated.. the math is the math. We should try to leave out any extraneous issues that keep us from getting a budget agreement. I know there are many Republicans who are exercised up about Planned Parenthood. And, I deeply disagree with them on that issue and I think it’s mischaracterized what Planned Parenthood does … but I understand they feel strongly about it. And, I respect that.
But, you can’t have an issue like that potentially wreck the entire U.S. economy. Anymore than I should hold the entire budget hostage to do something about gun violence. I feel just as strongly about that, and I think I have better evidence for it. But, the notion that I will threaten the Republicans … that unless they pass gun safety measures that would stop mass shootings … that I would shut down the government and not sign an increase in the debt ceiling … would be irresponsible of me … and the American people rightly would reject that. Well, the same is true for them. They want to defund Planned Parenthood … there’s a way to do it. Pass a law. Override my veto. That’s how democracy works. I have no problem with that. But, you have to govern … and I’m hoping the next speaker understands that.

Well, it wasn’t just farting. The Daily News points out that Richard Clem had gastric bypass surgery because extreme obesity was threatening his life. Afterwards, he spent a lot of work time in the bathroom too, as he couldn’t control his bowels. According to his employer, Clem simply stunk too much, too often.
HuffPost reports that obesity is a condition protected by the Americans With Disabilities Act so Clem’s wife filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the Case Pork Roll Co. in Trenton, where 70 year old Clem had worked as comptroller for 10 years.

Not surprising that they’re a virtual breeding ground for a level of corruption so exaggerated that it turned GW Bush’s former Assistant Secretary of Education, Diane Ravitch, into one of the country’s leading public education advocates.

A report in The State of Women Owned Businesses, 2014 from American Express OPEN says:
Obama’s FAFSA filing date change will make student aid application process easier and more helpful
President Obama is working on removing barriers to students obtaining financial aid for which they qualify. Changes to the FAFSA filing period’s submission date will make the application process faster, easier and enable students to get earlier financial aid award notification. This will provide graduating (and transfer) students with valuable information they can use to help identify the best college match.
The transition means that:
- For the 2017-18 school year, students can submit the FAFSA as early as October 1, 2016 (two months ahead of the current submission date).
- Students will submit their 2017-18 school year FAFSAs with year 2015 financial information.
- 2017-18 school year is the first year that “prior-prior” (in other words, 2 years back) financial information for parents and student will be used for the FAFSA.
- Most parents and students will be able to use the IRS automatic retrieval tool to import tax return information directly into the FAFSA without needing to type it in (because 2015 tax returns filed by April 15, 2016 will have been processed by October 1, 2016).
- PELL grant award information will become available to graduating high school students (and college transfer students) months earlier in the college application process. This will aid families in selecting a school that offers the right combination of academic and financial opportunity for the student.
- In order to accommodate the new FAFSA submission date, filing students will fill out two FAFSAs in calendar year 2016:
- The school year 2016-17 FAFSA after the old submission opening date on January 1, 2016;
- The school year 2017-18 FAFSA after the new submission opening date on October 1, 2016. (See chart above.)

New York Times calls for firing of brutal officer & systemic change to NYPD
Not being exactly known as the champion of the average New Yorker makes the New York Times’ scathing editorial calling out the NYPD for brutality all the more remarkable. In an uncommon act of public representation, the NYT Editorial Board calls for the dismissal of the latest officer caught in a brutal and illegal act of racism and demands that systemic changes be made to the police department’s operating policies.
…the New York City police officer who jumped and assaulted an innocent man, James Blake, in Manhattan last Wednesday, has disgraced the department. Commissioner William Bratton and Mayor Bill de Blasio should make an example of him. They should make it clear that his unprovoked aggression — caught by a security camera, so there is no doubt about what he did — reflects everything that causes people to distrust and hate the N.Y.P.D. The officer’s further transgressions — not identifying himself to Mr. Blake, not apologizing, failing to void the arrest in follow-up paperwork — speak to an appalling lack of judgment by someone unfit for the job.

Today, ownership of the news media has been concentrated in the hands of just six incredibly powerful media corporations. These corporate behemoths control most of what we watch, hear and read every single day. They own television networks, cable channels, movie studios, newspapers, magazines, publishing houses, music labels and even many of our favorite websites. Sadly, most Americans don’t even stop to think about who is feeding them the endless hours of news and entertainment that they constantly ingest. But they should.
