2 Dutch ladies in their 70s take their first flight – delightful!

An & Ria on planeI put off watching this video … because … 10 minutes! But I’m glad I made time for it, this is such a treasure. An & Ria’s 1st flight – at age 70! How they prepare for the big event is delightful and how much they enjoy the voyage from the Netherlands to Barcelona in a private jet … Well, it has to be seen to be enjoyed.

Spoken word artist stops show with ‘The Average Black Girl’

Ernestine JohnsonErnestine Johnson is glorious in her spoken word performance of ‘The Average Black Girl’ on the Arsenio Hall Show.

Ernestine recounts when boyfriend’s mother told her she was acceptable because she’s not ‘The Average Black Girl’ … and she’s told she’s not ‘The Average Black Girl’ because “When I speak, I pronounce every syllable.” But Ms. Johnson interprets this label in a very different way.

Krishnan shares food & love with his city’s homeless, elderly, ill

Narayanan Krishnan
Narayanan Krishnan cares for his city’s homeless, elderly, mentally ill. He worked for a major hotel in Bangalore and one day thought, I am feeding the rich but the poor of my region are dying for want of food. Now every day he feeds these people, bathes them and cuts their hair.

The philanthropist says, “Everybody has got 5.5 liters of blood. I am just a man.” On the social controversy of a person of his social class hugging and caring for the people India calls ‘Untouchables’ he says, “Food is one part, love is another part. The love and affection which you show will give them mental nutrition. Life’s ultimate purpose is to give. Start giving,” he urges. “Feel the joy of giving!” read more

Untrained 9 yo Dutch girl sings like an angel

AmiraThe mature, angelic voice and astonishing range of a young Dutch girl has captured hearts and souls, including my own. The purity of 9 year old Amira Willighagen’s untrained operatic voice has brought me to tears, twice now. When asked by one Holland’s Got Talent judge how she had been taught to sing, confusion appeared instantly on the little girl’s face. You can just see Amira asking herself, “How does a person get taught to sing?” – she learned by watching videos with her brother. read more

Alone is an illusion – always act with compassion

Saving a fellow pedestrian
We may feel sometimes that we are trudging through life alone, but this is just an illusion visited upon us by the yetzer hara to make us forget that we are united on Planet Earth as one people. In actuality, we affect each other in so many more ways than we may think and certainly, in many more ways than we can know.

This brilliant under-5-minute video shows how our small acts of kindness are part of the human chain that binds us together and ripples out to multiply the good in each – and in all – of us. read more

Make Thanksgiving 2014 for the Hungry & Homeless!

How about you? This year, will you help make Thanksgiving wonderful for the many who don’t have the wherewithal to do it themselves? We are talking about those without a home … or lacking family to share the holiday cheer.

There are plenty of opportunities to roast turkeys and bake pies in the days leading up to the holiday and to share food and love on Thanksgiving Day with community members in need of TLC and cheerful company. We are also collecting money, gift cards and clothing! If you have an event to share or questions about how and what to donate, reach out to me on Facebook or Twitter. read more

Treasure life!

We need to be happy with the life we have. Otherwise, we’ll be dissatisfied all of our lives. Life is never going to be perfect, but it is a gift from God – and is to be treasured in all its imperfect glory.

Healing Anxiety Naturally

I can’t say enough good things about this book. The copy given to me by a friend is an older version called Healing Anxiety With Herbs (Harold H. Boomfield, M.D.). As I read through it, I kept saying to myself: but that’s a strategy for happiness (or wellness) – it has nothing to do with herbs … great strategy though. So, I like the new title much more. It aptly reflects the core truth of this book: if you live naturally, optimistically, pay attention to your own needs and biorhythms, eat right and get enough sleep and exercise you will soon be not only healthy, but happy. read more

My favorite rendition of the “Cup Song” is the Irish school version

Coláiste Lurgan students
Coláiste Lurgan student singsColáiste Lurgan in Conamara, Ireland put together this amazing community performance of the Cup Song (Amhrán na gCupán in Gaeilge). 600 students and staff tap out the syncopated rhythm and harmonize the chorus to a beautiful young colleague’s lovely Gaelic lyrics, and they’re joined by guitarists and drummers too. 2.5 minutes of pure pleasure. Treat yourself!

The original is pretty good too. Anna Kendrick performing in Pitch Perfect

I can do something!

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do ~ Edward Everett Hale
